Travel Tips

Remember your visa

Visitors from the United States and Europe require visas to enter Tanzania. Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous state within Tanzania, so you don't need a separate visa to visit, but you do need to show your passport.

Travel June through October

This is the best time to visit Zanzibar because the temperature averages 26°C (79°F).

Plan your trip around the holy month of Ramadan

Zanzibar observes Ramadan for a month every year. During this period Muslims are forbidden to eat, drink, or smoke between sunrise and sunset. Although hotels catering to tourists are not affected, many small shops and restaurants are closed during the day. If you plan to arrive during Ramadan, aim for the end, when a huge feast called the Eid al-Fitr (which means "end of the fast") brings everyone out to the streets.

Day 4: Central Serengeti - Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Wake early in the morning to take a cup of coffee followed by an early game drive in Serengeti National Park, go back to the campsite, pack everything, take brunch, and depart with a game drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You are in Serengeti plains, the world natural wonder, and the first natural African icon. Explore wild predators such as lions, cheetahs, leopards kidding in the branches of trees, flamingos, and water birds on the Lake Magadi, as well as lovebirds and kingfishers across the Seronera River Valley.

Only in Serengeti, you will see millions of big wild mammals and maybe wildebeest migration. Then, you will depart with en route game watching across the Koppies of Serengeti to explore the cheetahs, lions, and leopards. Hyenas, jackals, wild dogs, elephants, and small antelopes are plenty, finding their survival in this plain.

You will approach the Ngorongoro Conservation Area perhaps via Oldupai Gorge to confirm the concluded evidence of hominids fossil and footprints about the existence of early men back to two million years ago. Later on, you will have dinner and overnight stay at Simba Campsite A after taking your sunset photo of the crater view.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, you will descend to the crater floor for about six-hour game drive. In the afternoon, you will depart with en route game watching and, later on, go to the Maasai market to take some souvenirs and drive back to Arusha reaching your hotel in the evening. The 45-minute descending to the crater is a beautiful moment to experience especially in the morning hours. It is a good time in which you can meet lions hunting and hippos returning into the water after a whole night struggling for food, while a big number of angulates grassing on the green grass making the crater floor.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area is the world’s garden and the place in which you can find some species of wild flowers. Here, you will also have an amazing experience to see the natural crater with wonderful volcanic caldera and Lake Magadi with flamingos. When in the season, Ngorongoro Crater floor is flowered pink, red, and yellow especially in late May and early June. Also, Ngorongoro is where to find the black rhinos regularly inside the small forest. In the afternoon, you will ascend the crater to Tarangire National Park. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Twiga Campsite.

Day 6: Tarangire National Park - Arusha

Wake up in the morning and have breakfast before your morning game drive followed by lunch and an afternoon game drive to Fantastic Wildlife Safari in Arusha. You will arrive at your campsite after a two-hour drive from Arusha. Go on your morning game watching before you take a break for a pleasant lunch. Your afternoon game drive will reveal all the wonders of Tarangire, a national park often renamed as the 'elephant playground'. Herds of up to 300 of these mighty mammals are sometimes seen in the park.

Serengeti may be better known, but Tarangire in the dry season easily rivals it for animal densities. Besides the herds of elephant, Tarangire is also home to buffalos, lions, wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles while gerenuks and fringe-eared onyxes are 'local specialties'. Lake Burunge’s marshy shores are the lure for these mammals and the waters attract many beautiful bird species. Tarangire has more than 500 bird species.

Tarangire is noted for its splendid baobab trees, rolling savannah, and acacia woodland. At the end of an inspiring afternoon amongst the wildlife, you will retire to the comfort of the campsite for an evening meal. Dinner and overnight stay will be in your already-booked Arusha Center Inn Tourist, Venice Hotel or similar hotel in Arusha town.
